A8: Upgrade to M8 Motorway

This road will be the upgraded version of the M8, an off-line construction project but retaining on-line upgrade at either end. The existing A8 will remain between Bargeddie and just west of Eurocentral, with a new link road up to the A89 at Balliestion, whilst the A8 will run alongside the M8 between Eurocentral and Newhouse on new roads, as shown below.

The new section of road will be built to D3 standard, with on-line section remaining D2, with the addition of hard shoulders.

Construction should start in 2008, with completion expected in 2011.
