A19

About the Road

The A19 is a major north-south regional route in North East England, running parallel to the east of the A1/A1(M). It is often used as an alternative to the A1 north of Wetherby, due to the lower traffic flows and because the road passes closer to many smaller centres along the route.

The road also takes in the Tyne Tunnel, having taken over the route from the A1 when the Newcastle Western Bypass opened.
