About the Road

This is the main road from London down to the south coast at Hastings. The road is gradually being upgraded, with new sections of dualled or widened sections being constructed., However, most of the work has only been completed north of Paddock Wood. The lack of investment so far on the remainder of the road means the route is often very congested and locals are very annoyed with the state of the road. The Highways Agency plans to upgrade the remainder of the road in the coming few years, with the sections around Pembury and Flimwell set to be upgraded next, as long as regional assembly funding is approved.
