A299

about - exit list - photos

About the Road

Essentially a non-motorway extension of the M2, due to the free-flowing route between the two, the A299 carries traffic from the motorway up to the Thanet towns of Ramsgate and Margate. The road was built as an unemployment relief project during the 1930s, but later substantially upgraded to a dual carriageway route.

The "Jolly Boys Outing" episode of Only Fools and Horses was filmed at a pub next to the A299 close to the A28 roundabout.
