A45 About the Road The A45 is historically a cross-county route of major importance, as it took traffic from the Midlands over to the ports at Harwich and Felixstowe. However, construction of the A14 meant that the A45 was drastically reduced in length, as the road to the east of Cambridge was renumbered A14 in order to provide a single-numbered strategic route over to East Anglia.
