About the Road

This was originally the main trunk route along the South Wales coast, linking together Newport, Cardiff and Swansea. However, the M4 has sped up links and taken away most of the A48's through traffic. Even after the Seven Bridge opened, the road was used as the main diversion route in the event of the bridge being closed, and is still marked as a "Holiday Route".
