About the Road

A main route across North West England, although through traffic now generally uses the M56 and M60 instead. It still provides the main route for traffic north of Manchester into East Lancashire, in partnership with the M66, and is a major route for traffic crossing the Pennines into North Yorkshire, by way of taking traffic towards Skipton.
